Mini-Portfolio

Hello Animation Physics Blogspot,

As a brief introduction to myself, I am in my fourth year as an Animation/Illustration student at San Jose State University. Although I have been here for some time, I am still figuring out what area of A/I to focus on. I nevertheless do what I can to be an active member of the program. Additionally, I have taken photographs for SJSU's animation club each year. This year, I am also a researcher for the animation club's Charity Committee. Here is a mini-portfolio of some work I have done over the years.

Pictured above is a charcoal reversal I did based on an old black-and-white photograph. Although I brought the project home after submitting it for class, I found that I spent more time working on it in SJSU's art building. General, I have always found it much easier to focus on my art when I travel outside of home.

This is another charcoal reversal that I did based on a photograph of myself. For this assignment, we were supposed to find a word that describes ourself and exude that word in our illustration. I chose the word "quirky".

This is a digital Photoshop painting of a tree. I learned quite a lot from the time I spent on it. The fine details of the leaves and grass were more time-consuming than I thought they would be.

This is the same tree, only at night. I really like how the atmosphere turned out on this one - the stars were fun to put in.

Here is a short reel of some animations I did in Autodesk Maya last semester. I really enjoyed animating the pigtails in the personality walk, which you can find at the end of the video. The pigtails were the most difficult part to animate, but I have often felt that it is the more ambitious animations that I enjoy doing - that sense of satisfaction I feel when the work is all done makes any project feel worthwhile to me.

The First Post

Hello Blogspot,

This is a blog that I have created for my Physics of Animation class at San Jose State. I look forward to learning more about the subject and posting entries about it!

Until next time.

Sincerely,
Charlie Ly
